Cement was formed in 2007 as a part of the R Point organisation. The all boy band are from Beocin, which is why they are called Cement (Beocin is a small town near Novi Sad, where there is a large Cement factory). The music of Cement is very different from the rest of the bands in the R Point organisation. Their youth and varied singing styles makes an interesting and exciting blend. R Point is a British non-profit organisation whose aim is to reduce the feelings of prejudice felt towards the Roma community, which leads to discrimination in the workplace and ostracism in education. R Point does this by giving Roma youth a voice through music, dance workshops and performances. They write their own lyrics and music and choreograph their own dance steps. Their lyrics are closely connected to everyday things that happen to them on the streets, going to and from school, and being Roma in Europe today. Their melodies are captivating – real crowd pullers. Cement has been invited to perform on many occasions throughout Serbia at concerts and festivals. They came first in the Carolija music competition from the telephone voters. The final of this competition was held at the Sava Centre in Belgrade in December 2007.
